Darlene Mae “Pork” Lamer (nee Bender)

Darlene Mae “Pork” Lamer (nee Bender), 77, of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.

Darlene was a 1960 graduate of Punxsutawney High School and later received her cosmetology license from the Johnstown Beauty Academy. Darlene owned DJ’s With Style salon in Indiana, PA and enjoyed making her clients feel beautiful and cared for. After selling her salon, she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Columbia, SC and then in Jacksonville, FL. Upon retirement in 2008, she permanently relocated to Fredericksburg, VA to be closer to her family.

Darlene was a Christian and member of the Pine Flats Baptist Church. She also served on the Purchase Line School Board for almost 10 years. Darlene was an amazing cook and baker. She was famous for her made-from-scratch meals, Sunday night pizzas, and delicious cookies, cakes, and pies. Darlene also loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, knitting blankets, doing crosswords, listening and dancing to Motown and country music, reading books, and taking your money in Friday night poker games. Her greatest love and source of pride was her 7 children, 16 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson.

Survivors include her children, Carla Hindle, Lesa Marcolini (Frank), Robert Berringer (Susan), Denise Draganza (Ernie), Mary Frampton (Richard), Jeannine Yanez (Patrick), and Brian Lamer; grandchildren Alex, Alanna, Dominic, Carri, Kyle, Samantha, Kasey, Lino, Genevieve, Lucy, Cooper, Josey, Emily, Michael, Gabe, and Joe; great-grandson Hudson; sister Shirley Mears; and several loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Belva O. Yohe Bender; brothers Herman and Guy “Tinker” Bender (sister-in-law Norma), and sister Eleanor Pennington (brother-in-law Frank).

Darlene’s family will celebrate her life in a private memorial.
