Darrell Wilson Wineberg

Darrell Wilson Wineberg, 91, of Big Run, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.

He was born at home in Gaskill Township on September 27, 1930, a son of the late Murray C. Wineberg and Laura E. (Rhoades) Wineberg.

Mr. Wineberg was a United States Army Veteran that served during the Korean Conflict where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal w/three bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Good Conduct Medal.

On October 3, 1953, he married the former Sara Louise Frieze. They enjoyed sixty-eight years of marriage.

Darrell drove truck for Bowser Transfer in Punxsutawney which later became Tayton’s Trucking.

Having morning coffee and donuts became his routine from being a truck driver and he never broke the habit.

He enjoyed gardening, mowing the grass and previously enjoyed hunting and fishing.

When his boys were young, he was involved and helped with Boy Scouts.

He was a kind and generous man that would help anyone.

He is survived by his wife Sara, and one son, Robert “Bob” Wineberg and wife Lugene of Punxsutawney; two grandchildren, Corry Sprague and Alicia Wineberg; three great grandchildren, Allison Wineberg, Cassidy Sprague and Wyatt James Sprague; one sister, Elda Wineberg of Big Run and George Wineberg of Punxsutawney.

Preceded in death by his son, Brian Wineberg, and one sister, Gervin Wineberg.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Joseph Buterbaugh.
