David Angelo Petruzzi

David petruzzi obitDavid Angelo Petruzzi, 89, of 1780 Church Avenue, Brockway, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on April 15, 2016.

Born in Brockway on January 9, 1927, to Angelo and Mary (DePonziani) Petruzzi, David served in the U.S. Navy in World War II on the destroyer USS Rush, and in the Korean War on the destroyer USS Compton. On August 23, 1952 he married Marcella Bomba, who passed away in 2009. He is survived by their two children, Lisa (Robert) Hess of Columbus, Ohio, and J. David of Brockway. He was the brother of Anthony “Pets” Petruzzi of Brockway, who passed away in 1988.

For many years David was the owner of the Pet Pontiac dealership in Brockway, part owner of the Timber Lanes bowling facility in Brockway, as well as other local businesses. Prior to his retirement he was a field agent for the Knights of Columbus.

David was a charter member for 64 years of the Brockway Knights of Columbus (Rev. Thomas E. Kennedy Council), a 70-year member of the American Legion, a member of the Tin Can Sailors, a past president of the Brockway Kiwanis, a charter member of the Brockway Kaimanns, member of the Ridgway Elks, and past president of the Brockway Historical Society.

David enjoyed golf, volunteering his time for various local organizations, spending winters at his Sebring, Florida villa and was passionate about history and family genealogy.

Viewing will be held at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home in Brockway on Monday, April 18 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Tobias Church in Brockway on Tuesday, April 19 at 9:30 a.m., Msgr. Charles A. Kaza presiding. Interment will follow in St. Tobias Cemetery with a military graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make donations to the Brockway Area Historical Society.
