David Douglas Winkworth

David Douglas Winkworth Age 47, of Franklin Park, died at 10:39 AM on December 1, 2017, at Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford, PA.

He was born in Syracuse, New York to Karen and Ralph Winkworth.

Dave married Laurie Schomaker in 2001.

He is survived by his wife Laurie; his three children, Jake, Chloe, and Benjamin; his parents, Ralph and Karen of Brookville; his siblings, Geoffrey (married to Deirdre) of Montclair, Theresa (married to Chad) of Austin, William (married to Denise) of Philadelphia, and Benjamin (married to Daniele) of Oakdale; four nieces, Briana, Sarah, Emma, and Julia; and three nephews, Zachary, Ryan, and Geoffrey.

Dave grew up in Brookville, PA, where he graduated from Brookville Area High School in 1988.

Dave attended Penn State University, graduating in 1993 with a degree in Physical Education.

Dave began his teaching career at Mary Walter Elementary School in Bealeton, VA, and eventually settled at Ingomar Middle School in North Allegheny School District.

In addition to teaching Health and Physical Education, Dave inspired countless athletes during his many years coaching basketball.

Dave was a long- time resident of Franklin Park where he and his wife Laurie raised their three children.

Dave lived his life based on a foundation of faith in God.

Dave served as an Elder at Ross Presbyterian Church.

His two greatest passions were his faith and his family.

He was a devout husband and a loving father.

Dave was a life-long athlete.

His passions included basketball, hunting, fishing, archery, badminton, mountain biking, and the outdoors.

Dave realized early on in his teaching career his largest impact would be felt through the influence he would have on children.

Throughout his career, Dave coached basketball at all levels and recreational softball, baseball, and soccer. Dave was a coach of sports and life.

All that knew him were touched by his grace, wisdom, and integrity.

Visitation is from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Monday, December 4, 2017, at George A. Thoma Funeral Home, Inc., 10418 Perry Hwy, Wexford, PA.

The funeral service will follow the next day, December 5, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Christ Church at Grove Farm, 249 Duff Rd, Sewickley, PA.

Pastor Barry Mariana and Pastor Matt Olson will be officiating.

The burial will be at Allegheny County Memorial Park, 1600 Duncan Ave, Allison Park, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a scholarship for the Winkworth children via GoFundMe.com (https://www.gofundme.com/winkworth-children-scholarship-fund).
