Della Mae Trayer

Della Mae Trayer, 87 of Brookville passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

Mrs. Trayer was born on May 3, 1927 in Brookville, a daughter of the late Clarence Adam and Pauline Jane (Holben) Mohney.

Della was first married to Earl E. Zimmerman who passed away in 1987. She then married Leroy M. Trayer on April 4, 1993 spending 16 wonderful years together before his death in 2009. Della was a loving wife and mother who deeply cared for her family. Throughout her life, she enjoyed working outside the home having been employed at the Jefferson County Courthouse for 15 years before her retirement. She also worked for Sylvania / Cameron Manufacturing and the Brookville Truck Stop. Della cherished the company of all those around her. She especially enjoyed chatting with her friends and the many visitors she encountered each day while working at the courthouse and her church. She delighted in making everyone’s day a little brighter with her smile and zeal for life.

In keeping with her active lifestyle outside of work, Della was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed caring for and spending precious time with her family. A wonderful homemaker, she was skillful in the kitchen avidly baking and cooking; both of which she had a deep passion for. She attended the Church of God in Emerickville and the Gospel Center in Reynoldsville where she also volunteered her time and worked. Della was certainly an inspiration to all who knew her and will be dearly missed.

Surviving relatives include her three sons, Richard Zimmerman and his wife Marilyn of Brookville; Tim Zimmerman and his wife Tina also of Brookville; and Terry Zimmerman of Dover, DE. She is also survived by a sister, Carlene Dixon of Lady Lake, FL and two grandchildren, numerous step-grandchildren; five great grandchildren and numerous step-great grandchildren as well. She was preceded in death by her husbands, a grandson, Eric Zimmerman and three brothers, Edwin, James, and Larry “Butch” Mohney.

Friends will be received from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. on Friday, March 13, and from 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Brenda Shumaker Funeral Home in Brookville.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14 at the funeral home officiated by the Reverend Donald Pendley.

Interment will follow at the Lutheran Cemetery in Emerickville.

Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Trayer’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
