Department of Aging Accepting ‘Champions of Older Workers’ Award Nominations

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Department of Aging is seeking nominations for the annual Champions of Older Workers Award, which recognizes employers in the commonwealth who employ and value older workers.

“Older workers bring experience and enthusiasm to the job which contributes to a company’s success and helps to build a stronger Pennsylvania,” Secretary of Aging Brian Duke said. “I thank those businesses and organizations that see the positive impact of utilizing older workers in the workplace.”

The award is sponsored by the Department of Aging. The department traditionally receives nominations from Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs), Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs), PA CareerLink® and the General Assembly. Individuals and businesses are also encouraged to submit names of employers for consideration.

One employer will be chosen to be placed in Pennsylvania’s Hall of Fame of Champions of Older Workers in recognition of its dedication to hire and train older members of the workforce.

Last year’s Hall of Fame of Champions of Older Workers award winner was Northern Tier Industry and Education Consortium located in Susquehanna County.

Deadline for submission of nominees is December 5, 2014. The winner will be honored on May 6, 2015 during the Annual Pennsylvania Partners Employment, Training and Education Conference.

Nomination forms along with award criteria are available on the department’s website at www.aging.state.pa.us.
