Derwin E. Lawrence

Derwin E. Lawrence, 83, Worthville, died on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA.

He was born December 29, 1933, in Harwick, Allegheny County, PA, a son of the late Aliene B. (Pfaff) and Martin A. Lawrence.

On June 2, 1962, he married Mary Ellen (Brown) Lawrence, who survives.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1954-1956.

Derwin was a graduate of Springdale High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

He worked as an Employee Benefits Manager at U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh.

He enjoyed hunting, playing solitaire, and traveling with his family. He loved working on the farm, being outdoors, and his 47’ Willy’s Jeeps. He was nicknamed from his European friends as “Manhattan”.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include two children, son Dean E. Lawrence and wife Donna of State College, PA, and daughter Sue E. Davis and husband Don of Worthville, PA; five grandchildren, Crystal S. Hamman, Cliff J. Boyer, Corinne E. Boyer, Dalton H. Lawrence, and Dylan E. Lawrence; one great granddaughter, Kaya S. Hamman; two sisters, Marjorie Scott of Springdale, PA and Judy Mazur of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Willis Lawrence; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald M. Lawrence; a sister, Alberta Delo; and a great grandson, Ryder H. Hamman.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m., Monday February 13, 2017, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney where a service commemorating his life will be held at 6 p.m.
