Despite Three Hits from Barners, Curve Fall to Akron

AKRON, Ohio – Barrett Barnes had three hits, including a two-run double, but the Akron RubberDucks took an early lead and held on to it to defeat to Altoona Curve, 6-2, on Friday night at Canal Park.

The Curve (9-12) outhit the RubberDucks (12-8), 8-7, but went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 on base.

Akron jumped ahead with an RBI single by Clint Frazier in the third. Yandy Diaz hit a sacrifice fly to score Joe Sever, and Frazier scored on a throwing error by Meadows to give the RubberDucks a 3-0 lead through three innings.

The Curve got two runs on the board with a two-run double by Barnes in the top of the fourth, but Akron answered right back with a solo homer by Nellie Rodriguez leading off the bottom of the fourth to stretch the lead back to 4-2.

Altoona starter Jason Creasy (Win, 3-1) last four innings and gave four runs (three earned) on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts. He left the game with a runner on base in the bottom of the fifth. Dovydas Neverausas took over and pitched two scoreless innings.

Perci Garner (Win, 1-0) worked three scoreless innings and held the Curve to two hits while taking over for starter Shawn Morimando entering the fifth.

The Curve and RubberDucks continue the series on Saturday afternoon at Canal Park. Right-hander Clay Holmes (1-2, 4.29) takes the mound for the Curve, opposed by RubberDucks righty Michael Peoples (1-0, 4.07). First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. Air time on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and across the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 1:50 p.m.
