Details Released on Weather-Related Crash in North Mahoning Township

car-accident-graphic-5254_jpg_475x310_q85-300x225NORTH MAHONING TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, a one-vehicle crash occurred on State Route 210, south of Dutch Creek Drive, in North Mahoning Township, Indiana County.

Police say around 1:15 p.m. on January 21, John Saunders, 72, of DuBois, was traveling west on SR 210 and lost control of his 2008 Toyota Tundra on the slush-covered roadway.

The vehicle slid over the center line, across the eastbound lane, and traveled approximately 135 feet off the roadway before slamming into a tree with its left front fender.

After impact with the first tree, the Tundra traveled another 24 feet before impacting a second tree with its right front fender area, according to police.

The vehicle came to a rest at the second tree facing west.

Saunders and his passenger – a 16-year-old female, also of DuBois – were both wearing lap and shoulder belts at the time of the crash.

Saunders suffered moderate injuries and his passenger sustained minor injuries in the collision.

Both were transported by Jefferson County EMS to Punxsutawney Hospital for treatment.

The Perry Township Volunteer Fire Company assisted at the scene.
