Dolores “Dee” Marie Veitz


Dolores “Dee” Marie Veitz, 73, of Punxsutawney, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.

She was born in DuBois on November 19, 1947, a daughter of the late Jack “Jake” L. Tabone and Thressa M. (Torrell) Tabone.

Dee was a graduate of DuBois Central Catholic.

She was a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church.

On May 20, 1967, she married Terry Lee Veitz. The just celebrated their fifty-fourth wedding anniversary.

Dee was a writer at heart, she passionately wrote “Tales from the past” as a published author. Her stories were fascinating, she mixed facts with fiction and drew the readers in.

Dee also worked as a writer for the Punxsutawney Spirit for many years.

She previously worked for Vapco Engineering, she was a Coal Broker for a company in California, and was a sales director at Reynoldsville Casket Company.

She was not shy about working in a man’s position and felt confident that she could excel in all areas of the job.

Dee also served on Punxsutawney Borough Council in the 90’s.

Dee and Terry wintered over in Florida for the past several years, she enjoyed traveling, loved spending time with her family and her cat “Buddy Boy.”

She was an avid reader and loved visiting B’s Books for the latest book.

In addition to her husband Terry, she is survived by two sons, James D. “Big Jim” Veitz and wife Carrie of Reynoldsville and Chris Veitz and wife Marcie of Punxsutawney; six grandchildren, Ashley McNeel and husband Travis, Amber Clontz and husband Darold, Amanda Lawson, Kacie Adams, Sicily Key, and Jordan Adams; three great grandchildren, Harper McNeel, Delton Haenel and Maddie Jewel.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her dear sister, Roseann Williams.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2021, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church, celebrated by Monsignor Riccardo.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice.
