Donald A. Kunkel, 71, of South St. Marys Street, St. Marys, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018, at AristaCare at Hearthside in State College.
He was born March 9, 1947, in Comanche, TX, son of the late Fritz and Nelda Stegomoellar Kunkel. Don attended schools in Comanche and had been a resident of St. Marys since 1993. He was the owner and operator of Consolidated Pet Foods in Denver, CO and was the owner of Advanced Recycling Equipment in St. Marys.
On June 6, 1981, in Ravenna, OH, Don married Susan L. Ames, who survives. He is also survived by a son, William J. and his wife Melissa Jo (DeLullo) Kunkel of St. Marys; three sisters, Joann Cooper of Hobbs, NM, Fay McKay and her husband Jim of Allen, TX, and Janice French and her husband C. L. of Dumas, TX; a brother, Wayne Kunkel and his wife Carole of Idaho; and by his mother-in-law, Geraldine F. Ames of St. Marys.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by four sisters, Lenora Kunkel, Nadine Schumann, Wilma Chambers, and Dorothy Atwood; and by five brothers, Jake, Ray, Leroy, Bill, and his twin, John Kunkel.
Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Vietnam War being stationed in Germany. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and playing golf, especially with his son and father-in-law and was an avid duck hunter. Don greatly enjoyed meeting with his friends at DD’s Bakery every morning, and they fondly called him “Time”.
A Funeral Service will be held in the St. Marys First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Tim Hoover, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the Langville Cemetery in Langville, PA.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
