Donald W. “Gabby” McLaughlin

150x185-3166373[1]Donald W. “Gabby” McLaughlin, 87, of Reedsville, passed away peacefully at 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at his home.

Born Nov. 29, 1927, in Ridgway, he was a son of the late Quinn and Helen (Winslow) McLaughlin.

His wife, Martha (Bovaird) McLaughlin, preceded him in death on July 9, 2008.

Surviving are: his children, Donald W. McLaughlin Jr. and wife, Ashley, of Birmingham, Alabama, Sue McLaughlin, of Kersey, Kay Lewis and husband, Randy, of Lewistown, and Lynn Glendye, of Dallastown; a brother, David McLaughlin and wife, Marjorie, of Brockway; grandchildren, Carly Snedeker and husband, Jess, Wesley McLaughlin, Sarah and Molly Glendye and Charles and Reed McLaughlin; and great-grandchildren, Mea and Rowan Snedeker.

He was also preceded in death by a cousin, Evelyn “Gene” McLaughlin and a granddaughter, Virginia McLaughlin.

Donald attended school in Horton Township, Elk County, and was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater.

He was an over the road driver for Womeldorf Trucking for 21 years and he was self-employed for six years. He also worked for ABF Trucking in Carlisle for seven years, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lewistown, and Lewistown Moose and Lewistown American Legion. He was a founding member of Lone Pine Camp and greatly enjoyed spending time outdoors. Gabby will be missed by his family and friends.

His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karen McCachren officiating.

Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
