Donna Belle Newcome

Donna Belle (Smith) Newcome, 77, of Punxsutawney, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 25, 2014.

For the past year she had been a resident of Christ the King Manor in Dubois.

She and her twin brother, Donald, were born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1936 in Punxsutawney a daughter of the late Walter and Nora E. (Furman) Smith.

Donna Belle was a 1954 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School.

On September 8, 1962 she married Ronald Newcome, Jr. He preceded her in death on February 24, 2012. They enjoyed nearly fifty years of marriage together.

Mrs. Newcome was a member of the First Church of God, where she taught the nursery Sunday School class for years and was dearly loved by all her children. After her husband’s appointment to Maple Grove Church of God in Clymer, she attended church with him and played piano there also.

She drove school bus for over twenty years for the Punxsutawney School District and also worked in the school cafeteria. In her earlier years, she did sewing at Prammco, which later became Punxsutawney Sportswear.

Donna Belle enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning, crocheting and playing piano.

She will be dearly missed by her five children; one daughter, Karen Perez and husband Steve of Punxsutawney; four sons, Rodney Newcome and wife Kim of Punxsutawney; Fred Newcome and wife Devonie of Weippe, ID, Ralph Newcome and wife Tammy of Weippe, ID, and Steve Newcome and wife Donna of Punxsutawney;
eleven grandchildren, who were her pride and joy; Lindsay Newcome and fiance Ben Lenze, Ethan, and Michaela Newcome, Walker Newcome, Morgan Schwartz and husband Levi, Ezekiel and Dylan Irwin, Amanda Bonner and husband Dustin, Cody, Ty and Taylor Newcome; three great grandchildren, Peyton and Paisley Bonner and Brayden Irwin; one sister, Arlene McGuire and husband Pat of Punxsutawney, one brother, Paul Smith and wife Carol of Illinois.

Preceded in death by her parents and husband, her twin brother, Donald Smith, brother, Roy Smith, sister, Phrona Foulks.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumaker Funeral home, Inc., and Wednesday from 10 until the time of service at Chestnut Grove Independent Church, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 29, at the Chestnut Grove Independent Church, 342 Lipp Road, Punxsutawney, officiated by Pastor Joe Spack.

Interment will follow at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania.

Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Newcome’s memory to Maple Grove Church of God, Laurel Run Road, Penn Run, PA 15765.
