Douglas L. Hunter

Douglas L. Hunter, 89, of Altoona, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Hillview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Altoona.

He was born May 5, 1928, in Tidioute, PA, a son of the late Cecil F. (Hunt) and Henry C. Hunter.

On March 9, 1956, he married D. Dorene (Noerr) Hunter, who survives.

Doug attended Chestnut Grove Independent Church. He was very involved with the building of the new church and also served as an elder.

He was a graduate of Tidioute High School.

Douglas served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War as a Signalman.

He worked for forty-four years for the former Bell Telephone Co., now Verizon, as a Lineman, a Switchman, and retired as a Trained Microwave Technician.

Doug enjoyed working with electronics. He was an amateur Ham Radio Operator and a member of the Amateur Ham Radio Club of Punxsutawney. He enjoyed being able to communicate to people around the world with his radio.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Nannette Williams and husband Rodnee of Altoona, PA; two grandchildren Ryan Williams and Heather Morder and husband Franklin both of Altoona; and three great-grandchildren Aiden, Elizabeth, and Noah; and a niece and six nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Bradley L. Hunter, a brother Bud Hunter, and two nephews.

Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 29, 2018, and also from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 30, 2018, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 30, 2018, at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Spack officiating.

Interment will be in Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville.
