BURNSIDE TWP., Pa. (EYT) – According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, a 24-year-old Jefferson County man suffered injuries after allegedly falling asleep at the wheel and spinning off the road into a tree.
Police say the accident happened around 7:27 a.m. on June 26 when Brandon R. McCracken, 24, of Anita, fell asleep at the wheel while traveling south on State Highway 286 just north of Urey Road in Clearfield County.
Police say McCracken’s vehicle traveled off the west side berm. He then attempted to correct the vehicle’s steering, causing the vehicle to spin in a counterclockwise direction.
McCracken’s vehicle then traveled off the east side berm and impacted a large tree with the passenger side rear door area of the vehicle.
According to police, McCracken suffered moderate injuries.
He was wearing a seat-belt.
Police report that further investigation into this crash determined that McCracken was suspected of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Police say that he was subsequently arrested for DUI and charges are pending through District Court 46-3·04.
Mahaffey Volunteer Fire Department and Citizens Ambulance Company assisted at the scene.
