Driver Slams into Embankment on I-80 After Reaching for Cell Phone

SANDY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – DuBois-based State Police say a one-vehicle accident occurred November 30 at approximately 2:23 p.m. on Interstate 80, in Sandy Township, Clearfield County.

According to police, the accident occurred as Jessie L. Pencavage, 25, of Nanticoke, was traveling west on Interstate 80 in the left lane near the 98.4 mile marker.

Police say Pencavage became distracted as she was reaching for her cellular telephone and her 2010 Ford Fusion began to drift left across the white fog line.

Police say the vehicle then impacted the embankment in the median with its front end.

After impact, the Ford Fusion allegedly climbed the embankment before rotating clockwise and traveling back down the embankment.

The vehicle came to a final rest on the left shoulder facing north.

Pencavage was wearing a seat belt and escaped injury in the crash.

Pencavage was cited with a traffic violation.

PSP DuBois were assisted at the scene by the Sandy Township VFD and DuBois EMS.
