Driver Swerves to Avoid Collision with Deer, Slams into Tree

PINE CREEK TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police say a one-vehicle accident occurred around 8:18 p.m. on December 26, on State Route 322, in Pine Creek Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 32-year-old Tessia M. Vanness, of Sykesville, was traveling on SR 322 when a deer entered the roadway from the north side of the road directly in the path of her 2006 Mazda Five.

Vanness instinctively swerved to avoid the collision and left the roadway and struck a tree head on.

The vehicle came to a final rest on the south side of SR 322, facing southeast against the tree.

Vanness was using a seat belt and suffered injuries of unknown severity.

Jefferson County EMS transported her to Brookville Hospital.

Pine Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, Jefferson County EMS, and McPherson Towing assisted at the scene.
