DuBois Boys’ & Girls’ Hoops Teams Play Sub-Regional Playoff Games This Week

CLARION, Pa. (D9SPORTS) – Clarion High School will the home of three sub-regional PIAA basketball playoff games this week with one game Wednesday and two Thursday.

On Wednesday, DuBois will take on Erie Central Tech in a boys’ Class AAAA sub-regional game at 6 p.m. The winner will take on the fourth-place team out of the WPIAL (District 7) in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs.

Then, Thursday, there will be a girls/boys doubleheader featuring the DuBois vs. Obama Academy of the Pittsburgh City League (District 8) in a girls’ Class AAAA subregional contest and Clearfield vs. Obama Academy in a boys’ Class AAA subregional contest.

The winner of the DuBois/Obama Academy game will move into the PIAA playoffs to play the WPIAL runner-up, while the winner of the Clearfield/Obama Academy contest will move into the PIAA bracket and play the third-place team out of the WPIAL.

Last year, Clearfield lost to Obama Academy in the subregional game, which was played a week later. The PIAA asked that the subregional contests take place prior to the district deadlines this year, thus the reason for the Class AAA championship games being played last Friday.

There is no Class AAA girls’ team in District 8, so District 9 champion Punxsutawney moves straight into the PIAA bracket.

DuBois is the only Class AAAA school in District 9.
