Dush Announces $100,380 in School Food Service Equipment Grants for 66th Legislative District

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Rep. Cris Dush (R-Jefferson/Indiana) announced today that approximately $100,384 in food service equipment grants have been awarded to three schools in the 66th Legislative District.

Brockway Area Junior Senior High School will receive $5,690 for the purchase and installation of a new gas convection oven.  Punxsutawney Area Elementary School and Punxsutawney Area High School will each receive $47,347 for the purchase and installation of a new dishwasher.

“Most of us take for granted that we can put three square meals on our tables each day, but it is not that easy for everyone,” Dush said.  “Obtaining this state-of-the-art equipment will further ensure that our students have access to the quality, nutritious food they need to grow and excel.”

The grants come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service and are distributed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education through a competitive selection process. Priority is given to high-need schools where 50% or more of students are eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

Schools often use the grants to purchase new refrigerators, freezers, stoves and dishwashers.

The 66th Legislative District includes all of Jefferson County and the Indiana County communities of Banks, Canoe, East Mahoning, Grant, Green, Montgomery, North Mahoning, Rayne, South Mahoning and West Mahoning townships and Cherry Tree, Ernest, Glen Campbell, Marion Center, Plumville and Smicksburg boroughs.
