Earle William “Bill” Grove Jr.

grove-earle-w-jrEarle William “Bill” Grove Jr., age 90, most recently of Brookville, PA, passed away as a resident of the McKinley Health Center in Brookville, PA.

Bill was born on July 30, 1924, to the late Earle and Elizabeth (Hedges) Grove. On November 3, 1950, he married Patricia (Zumes) Grove; Patricia preceded him in passing on April 25, 2007.

After his high school education he went on to graduate from Cornell University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a Christian man and aligned himself with the Catholic Church.

Bill was very proud of his service to our country, and he retired from the United States Air Force. He fought in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was very sociable and would talk to anybody who would care to have a conversation. He could tell stories and shared some unique experiences like how he was a wing man for James Maitland Stewart, also known as Jimmy Stewart, during WWII. He shared a different story of how his plane was shot down over Russia; for 72 days he walked west toward France having to scavenge for food, sleep in barns, and survive anyway he could. There are many more stories to tell but suffice it to say, he loved his country, he loved his flag, and he gave all he could in defense of the freedoms that they represent. He was truly a southern gentleman.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bill is preceded in death by 2 daughters; Deborah Jean Grove, and Barbara Louise Grove.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 129 Graham Ave, Brookville, PA, 15825, beginning at 10:00am, and officiated by Father William Laska.

Interment will take place on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at the Indian Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA, 17003.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to any local Veteran’s Association of the donors choosing. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825.
