Edgar Arthur Woods

Edgar Arthur Woods, 93, of Rossiter, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born in Burnside on July 22, 1928, a son of the late John Allen Woods and Edith Mae (Oaks) Woods.

Mr. Woods was a United States Veteran of World War II.

He worked for many years for Asplundh Tree Service. He took an early retirement so that he could simply enjoy his life a bit.

Edgar was the “best” storyteller, he loved to be around people and entertain them with his memories of events and times past.

He was a die-hard baseball fan, especially for the Rossiter Miners and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He loved his family dearly and always enjoyed their time together.

He is survived by three children, Arthur Edgar Woods of Rossiter, Carol Melvin and husband Gregory of Mirmar, Florida, and Allen Jesse Woods and wife Patricia of State College; six grandchildren, Derek Woods, Jennifer Woods, Kristen Woods, Ashley Woods, Tara Spearing and Sean Melvin; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Helen Yeager of Glen Campbell.

Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, Clayton and Delmont “Smokey”Woods; three sisters, Delores Rowan, Erma Astorino and Ruth Carnahan.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery in Rossiter, where military honors will be accorded by the Rossiter American Legion.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Woods memory to the Rossiter Miners ball team.
