NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Edgewood Heights personal care community in New Bethlehem is having an Oral Health Day on Friday, February 12.
The event is from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Oral health is the health of a person’s mouth, teeth, and gums.
According to the American Dental Association, the mouth is a window into the health of the body. It can show signs of nutritional deficiencies or infections. Systemic diseases like diabetes and heart disease may first become apparent through oral problems.
As part of the event, Crystal Siebka of Siebka Smiles will give an educational presentation and offer free dental screenings.
Siebka is a registered dental hygienist, a public health dental hygiene practitioner and a certified orthodontic assistant with over 28 years of experience.
Beginning at 9:00 a.m., Siebka will speak about how oral health affects overall health and quality of life. She will also talk about dry mouth, a common side effect of medications, and over the counter treatment options to help.
Then, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Siebka will be offering free dental screenings by appointment. The screening will take approximately 15 minutes.
Individuals interested in a free screening should call Edgewood Heights at 814-275-2790 to make an appointment.
The program and screenings are geared toward adults age 55 and over.
Edgewood Heights is located at 612 Keck Avenue in New Bethlehem, at the top of the hill behind the Smuckers plant.
Edgewood Heights is a personal care community of WRC Senior Services which has been providing care and services for older adults in the area for 125 years.
