Edward R. Syphrit, Jr., age 99, of the DuBois Nursing Home, DuBois, Pa. (Formerly of Sigel, Pa.) passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at DuBois Nursing Home.
Born on March 1, 1914, in Braddock, Pa., he was the son of Edward R. Syphrit Sr. and Esther J. Breakey Syphrit.
On November 25, 1940, he married Dorothy I. Breakey in Brookville, Pa., who died on May 6, 2007.
He served as a radioman 1st class in the US Naval Reserve for 4 years prior to the beginning of WWII.
He worked as a field man for National Fuel Gas and also as a part-time radio and TV repairman.
He was a member and an Elder at the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church in Sigel, Pa. and enjoyed being a ham radio operator in his younger years.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Bollinger (Thomas) of Lehigh Acres, FLorida, and Marilyn Syphrit of Brookville, Pa.; one granddaughter, Rachel Anthony (David) of Lehigh Acres, FLorida; and two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Lillian Anthony.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Eunice Schlesinger.
Visitation hours are on Monday, August 26, from 2-4 PM at McKinney Funeral Home at 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, August 26, at McKinney Funeral Home, with The Rev. Boyd Edmondson officiating.
Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery (Windy Hill) in Rose Twp., Jefferson Co., Pa.
