Edwin K. Doverspike

doverspikeEdwin K. Doverspike, 77 of Mayport, died on Sunday, May 25, at the Clarion Hospital. He was born on July 9, 1936 in Rose Township, Jefferson County. He was the son of George Brent and Mildred Elizabeth (Davis) Doverspike. He was married on September 10, 1960 to Janet A. (Himes).

Ed was a teacher at the Redbank Valley High School from 1966 until his retirement in 1997. He was a life member of the New Bethlehem Fire Company and a social member of the Limestone Fire Company. He belonged to the Trout Run Hunting and Fishing Club and the Lycoming Anglers Club. He was a coach and a 4-H leader. He enjoyed playing bingo, and the lottery, hunting, fishing, traveling and being with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Ed is survived by his wife, Janet Doverspike of Mayport, two daughters; Tami Doverspike of Brookville and Beth Stewart and her husband Bill of New Bethlehem, two sons; Mike Doverspike and his wife Karen of York and Todd Doverspike of Mayport, four grandchildren; Sabrina and Brenton Doverspike, and Dalton and Zoie Stewart, a sister, Edith Wallace of Pittsburgh, two brothers; George Doverspike and his wife Annette of Corvallis, Oregon and Gerald Doverspike and his wife Shirley of Waterloo, New York, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents and three sisters; Virginia Duncombe, Ellen Markle and Susan Bittner.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 29, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 30, at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor James Steingass officiating. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Distant.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the New Bethlehem Area Free Library or the charity of one’s choice.
