Elaine Frances Nelson

Elaine Frances Nelson went to heaven to be with her beloved husband, Richard, on September 8, 2021.

She was 93 years old.

She was born in Brockway, PA, to the late Anthony and Angelina (Paruolo) Gregorio.

On August 22, 1953, she married Richard Carl Nelson who preceded her in death on June 28, 2006. They were married almost 53 years before his passing.

Elaine had worked at Brockway Glass before her marriage and until her first child was born.

She always had fond memories of rolling skating at Ridgway Roller Rink.

One year her husband surprised her with a YMCA membership where they enjoyed many years swimming together. After his passing, she continued with friends she had made, always enjoying having lunch afterward. She always attributed her longevity to her husband’s gift of swimming.

She was a member of St. Catherine’s Church in DuBois. She was a long-standing member of the Rosary Society and helped prepare many meals to serve after funerals at St. Catherine’s.

She was a wonderful baker and cook, always welcoming her children’s friends to stay for dinner. When she made her delicious homemade bread, it was always shared with the nuns and priests who always looked forward to Mrs. Nelson’s bread. In later years she helped the First Communion students make their own special loaf.

While her children were in grade school, Elaine and her friends took turns hosting card club at their homes. She continued playing cards throughout her life and was an avid reader.

She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was loved deeply. She had many friends and relatives that cherished her.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Diane Tangeman of DuBois, PA, and Barbara (Michael) Martino of Brentwood, TN. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren: John Tangeman, Dr. Margot Martino, and Olivia Martino.

Also preceding her in death were 4 sisters: Betty Baker, Rose Verne, Mary Marchiori, and Pauline Umbaugh; 3 brothers: Pat, Dennis, and Angelo Gregorio; and 2 infant siblings.

There will be no visitation.
