Ellen L. Kerr

Ellen L. Kerr, 95, Punxsutawney, died Monday, September 29, 2014, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born June 30, 1919, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Jesse and Nettie (Maurer) Snyder.

In 1938, she married Oliver C. Kerr, who preceded her in death in April of 1960.

She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Punxsutawney where she served as a deaconess, a choir member, and taught Sunday School for many years.

She enjoyed cooking and baking, being active within her church, playing piano, and spending time with family.

She worked for McLaughlin’s Pharmacy as a clerk for twenty three years.

Surviving relatives include five children, Norman Kerr of Chase City, VA, Fred Kerr of Punxsutawney, Judy Ingros and husband Jon of Punxsutawney, Millie Buffington and husband Gary of Pensacola, FL, and Denny Kerr and wife Barb of Punxsutawney; seven grandchildren, John Ingros and wife Marta of Punxsutawney, Shannon Wesdock and husband Jack of Potomac Falls, VA, Gary Buffington, Jr. and wife Ronda of Tampa, FL, Jody Smith and husband Dan of Leonardtown, MD, Mike Kerr and wife Jamie of Punxsutawney, Renee Ellis and husband Tim of Punxsutawney, and Garrett Neal of Punxsutawney; eleven great-grandchildren, Eric and Kevin Ingros, Nadia and Frank Wesdock, Gary Buffington III, Jordan, Daniel, and Andrew Smith, Cooper and Cole Kerr, and Dylan Gross; two sisters, Josephine Kuhns of Williamsburg, VA, and Shirley Sojourner and husband Dave of Clermont, FL; four nephews, Scott Sojourner, Terry Kuhns, Tom Snyder, and Robert Snyder; and a niece Sylvia Edmonds.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter JoAnn Kerr; two brothers, Scott Snyder and Earl Snyder; and three nephews, Kay Kuhns, William Snyder and Paul Snyder.

Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, October 3, 2014, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the funeral home with Reverend John Kline officiating.

Interment will be in Mt. Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Punxsutawney, 209 East Union Street, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
