Elvira M. Bruno

Elvira M. Bruno, 93, passed away on January 15, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and raised in Brockway, PA, she was the daughter of Edward and Corina Carnesali.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Carl Bruno; two daughters, Jenni (Vince) Lobaugh, Aspers, and Tina (Dave Maxwell) Bruno, Nashua, NH; three sons, Bruce (Patrina) Bruno, Midlothian, VA, Duane (Pam) Bruno, Denver, CO, Marc (Karen) Bruno, Silver Spring, MD; 11 grandchildren, Jason Bruno, Alicia (Rachel) Bruno, Jolene (Brian) Schildt, Marie Lobaugh, Emily Lobaugh, Eric Maxwell, Jacinda Bruno, Kara (Seamus) Doone, Kevin Bruno, Shaun Bruno, Sydney Bruno and; three great-grandchildren, Jameson and Alanna Maxwell and Kennedy Doone; sister, Armeda McCall and brother, John Carnesali. She is predeceased by her two sons, Jeff (survived by Terri Bruno) and Kevin Bruno: brother, Edward Carnesali: and sister, Marie Whitmer.

While growing up in Brockway, she was a girl scout, spent countless hours assisting her dad in the family barbershop and loved dancing every Saturday night.

During World War II, Elvira wrote regularly to and extremely large number of military men and women from her hometown to provide comfort and support as a time when they needed it most. A true act of kindness that was so much appreciated by those serving our country.

Elvira graduated from Brockway High School in 1941 and attended Duffs-Iron City College in Pittsburgh, PA from 1945-1947. She worked at various retail businesses prior to starting her family.

After marrying Carl in 1951, she devoted her life to raising seven wonderful children, her pride and joy. A wonderful cook and baker, she was well known for her delicious pies, homemade noodles, bread and raviolis. Always thinking of others first, Elvira was always quick to provide a meal to those families in need. Elvira’s home was always a warm and fun place for the neighborhood kids to come by for entertainment and goodies.

Elvira was well known for her great sense of humor. She most enjoyed dressing up as a clown either entertaining kids at their birthday parties, taking her children around the neighborhood for Halloween or on other occasions over the years to bring a smile to others. Elvira also had a flare for writing great poetry that either provided fun loving verses or a powerful and meaningful life message.

Elvira strongly believed in giving back to her community through years of dedicated service as a volunteer. She volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels and The American Red Cross for over 40 years, receiving the Martha Mickley Memorial Fund Award in recognition of outstanding volunteerism in Blood Services. Elvira was a member of the Lions and Lioness Clubs for many years, receiving their distinguished Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services. She was also a member of the Harrison City Women’s club and was very active and devoted to the Catholic Church where she served as chairperson for their fundraising committee.

Elvira will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Carlisle St, New Oxford.

Burial will be in Upper Bermudian Lutheran Church Cemetery in Gardners.

Viewings will be held at the Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincolnway West, New Oxford, on Thursday, January 19, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, January 20, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
