Emery L. “Pooch” Smith, 74, Punxsutawney, died Monday, July 11, 2016, at DuBois Nursing Home.
He was born April 12, 1942, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late L. Marie (Knisley) and Virgil A. Smith.
He was married to Susie (McKinney) Smith, who preceded him in death in 1967.
Pooch was Christian by faith and attended several churches throughout his life.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and dirt track racing.
He worked as an owner/operator driving coal truck.
He was a member of the Rossiter Sportsman’s Club.
Surviving relatives include four siblings, sister Faith Mincer and husband Raymond of York, PA, brother Vernon Smith and wife Linda of Punxsutawney, brother Dexter Smith and wife Cathy of Punxsutawney, and sister Joy Knipple and husband Floyd of Punxsutawney; a sister-in-law Jane Smith of Rossiter; his dog Jack; nine nieces; five nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Larry Smith and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Friends will be received from 12 to 1 p.m., Saturday, July 16, 2016, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., with Rev. Donald Brauer officiating.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery.
