Eugene M. “Gino” Carrick

Eugene M. “Gino” Carrick, 64, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016, surrounded by his family.

Gino was born Dec. 26, 1953, in Punxsutawney, a son of David M. Carrick and the late Sally Getch.

He was a member of the St. Peters United Church of Christ of Punxsutawney.

He was a 1969 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School. He attended Central Connecticut State University on a football scholarship.

Gino enjoyed many things in life with his family and friends, such as hunting, golfing, pool on Saturdays, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, planting gardens, cookouts and weekends at the Ferko’s Camp. He was known for being one of Elvis’ biggest fans.

His love for sports started around the age of three, playing with bats and balls. As he grew, so did his love for the games – baseball, from Little League to the Over Forty Softball League, football through high school as the team’s quarterback and track and field as a record thrower of the javelin.

He was a member of the Punxsutawney Eagles, American Legion and the Walston Club.

Gino was a carpenter by trade and also the maintenance man at the Pantall Hotel for many years.

He is survived by his father and step-mother, David and Esther Carrick of DuBois; two sons, Michael Carrick and David D. Carrick and wife Cathi of Punxsutawney; two grandsons, Gavin and Landon Carrick of Punxsutawney; two sisters, Jessie Carrick and Mary Lynne Carrick and fiancé Kevin Shugars; a brother, Charlie Carrick of Los Angeles, California; a step-brother, Randy Collarini and wife Cindy of Punxsutawney; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Sally and Duane Breth; his maternal grandmother, Mary Getch; his paternal grandparents, George and Olive Carrick; and a step-brother, Rocky Collarini.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the St. Peters United Church of Christ.
