Eugene “Yogi” Wiliam Hetrick

Eugene “Yogi” Wiliam Hetrick, 87, of Brookville, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.

Mr. Hetrick was born on August 14, 1933 in Coolspring, PA, one of twelve children to the late David R. and Florence (Lingenfelter) Hetrick.

On June 31, 1957 he married Marilyn Jean Swartzfager . She preceded him in death on March 15, 1995.

Some of Eugene’s accomplishments include graduating from Punxsutawney High School in 1953, at which time he enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955 stationed out of Seattle, Washington.

Eugene was a member of the Local Union 210 (Glass Workers Union), and was employed by Bell Aircraft from 1956 to 1957, Marienville Glass Containers Plant from 1957 to 1983. He then moved to North Carolina, and was employed by Owens Illinois of Rockingham, NC from 1983 until retiring and moving back to Pennsylvania in 1998. “Yogi” was a self-employed carpenter and also worked for his uncle, Wilson Hetrick.

In his spare time, he loved to make doll houses. He also made a replica of the Coolspring Power Museum, Coolspring village, a funeral home, and a beautiful Noah’s Arc. He spent countless hours handcrafting each detail of his project. His talent and generosity will be greatly missed.

He was protestant by faith, being a member of the Clarington United Methodist Church in Clarington. He also attended the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Brookville.

Surviving relatives include six children, Deena A. Smith; Kristin H. Stormer and husband Larry; Eugene D. (Doug) Hetrick and wife Sue; Duncan A. Hetrick and wife Valerie; Kimberly A. Smith; and Shane M. Hetrick; all of Brookville; four brothers, Fred Hetrick and wife Donna of Harborcreek, PA; Raymond Hetrick of Coolspring, PA; Clay Hetrick and wife Margie of Corsica, PA; and Clark Hetrick of Ohio; fourteen grandchildren, Tiffany Smith; Jessica Stormer; Angela Phillips; Jeremiah Stormer; Trista Stormer; Amanda Thomas; Amy Hetrick; Heather Smith; Josh Daugherty; Travis Daugherty; Natasha Daugherty; Stephanie Ishman; Amber Hetrick; and Rebecca Hetrick; and seventeen great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Arnold; David; Darrel; Wayne; and Walter; two sisters, Zelma Simpson and Dorie Long; and two infant grandsons.

Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m., on Monday, October 24, 2016, at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2016, at the funeral home.

Military honors will be accorded by the Brookville American Legion and VFW.

Interment will be at the Coolspring Cemetery in Coolspring.
