Evelyn “Marie” (Miller) Yoas

Evelyn “Marie” (Miller) Yoas, age 84, passed away in the late evening hours of Tuesday, February 14, 2017, with her family by her side, as a patient of the Clarion Hospital in Clarion, PA.

Marie was born on June 15, 1932, to the late Harry Franklin and Mary W. (McClune) Miller, in Waterson, PA.

She attended and graduated from the Sigel School District.

After graduating she started her working life which took her to many different jobs including positions at the American Hotel, the Brookville Glove Factory, and eventually the Brockway Glass Company. She was with them for over 17 years before she retired. In her retirement she continued working.

Marie opened and operated her very successful cake and candy store in Brockport, PA.

Throughout the years her cake decorating has been recognized, praised, and rewarded in various venues including state shows, county fairs, and the kitchen tables of her many customers, family, and friends. She dedicated hours on her beautiful and delicious creations and she could make anything.

Confectionary was only the beginning of her talents. Marie always had creative ideas on how to make something more glamorous but the love and care to make personal gifts for her family and friends.

She made pajama’s, quilts, blankets, and many other items that her recipients cherish for their beauty and craftsmanship.

She has been featured on television for her prospecting and drudging abilities. With these skills she found many precious and semi-precious stones that she used to make her own jewelry.

She loved to travel and recently she took a trip to one of her favorite locations, which is the Redwood National Park.

Even in her 84th year her heart was caring enough to make meals “for the older people.”

She loved canning and she would can and store anything that could be; her pickles were famous and they would be consumed by the gallons and her homemade jellies were delicious.

Marie was a member of the Roseville Independent Chapel in Roseville, PA. She was also very involved with the Sigel Volunteer Fire Company and held positions as Secretary of the Relief Association, Secretary of the Fire Company, Vice President of the Fire Company, she was a fire-fighter in a time when there were very few woman serving in that capacity, she was an IRP First Responder up until she became a full EMT, and she stayed diligently involved with Fire Company up through 2016.

Marie spent hundreds of hours tracking her family genealogy and more than any other accomplishments, of which only few are listed, she was most proud of and concerned with her family. She always made sure they were cared for, fed, and loved.

In 1953, Marie married Harry Joseph Moore, and on December 8, 1958, he preceded her in passing.

On February 23, 1963, she married Luther “Ed” Yoas, and for 54 years he has been by her side supporting her interests, as she has supported his.

She was truly a matriarch in every sense of the word, and her family misses her dearly.

In addition to her husband Ed, Marie is survived by 3 daughters; Linda (Tom) Davis, Mary (Michael) Conway, Jody (Mike) Mancuso; 2 sons; Luther Jr., (Cheryl) Yoas, William (Jeanette) Yoas; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and her family’s very special friend, Andrew Kinsinger.

In addition to her first husband and parents, Marie is preceded in death by 2 sisters; Lois Miller, Phyllis Miller; and 1 brother; Leland Miller. Family and friends will be received on Friday, February 17, 2017, from 4 – 8pm, at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825.

A second opportunity for viewing will take place on Saturday, February 18, 2017, from 10am – 12noon, at the Roseville Independent Chapel, 3598 Route 322, Brookville, PA, 15825.

A funeral service will immediately follow the viewing at the church, beginning at 12noon, and officiated by Pastor Jim Fillhart. Interment will take place at the Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Eldred Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Roseville Independent Chapel, or to the Sigel Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 97, Sigel PA, 15860.
