Falk’s Big Day Not Enough as Clarion U. Baseball Swept by Seton Hill

FalkGREENSBURG, Pa. – Tyler Falk had a big day at the plate for the Clarion University baseball team Saturday reaching base seven times including getting five hits, but Seton Hill’s bats erupted for 29 runs to sweep a doubleheader Saturday in Greensburg.

Clarion, the home team for the twin bill, lost game one 15-2 and game two 14-4 despite Falk going a combined 5-for-6 with two walks and an RBI in the two games including a 3-for-3 performance with a walk and an RBI in the opener.

The Golden Eagles also got home runs from Tyler Delval, Drew Pirritano, Jordan Mesoraco and Ben Thomas with the later three coming in game two and Delval’s game-one dinger being his third in his past three contests.

In game two, Mesoraco, the brother of Cincinnati Reds All-Star catcher Devin Mesoraco, was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the seventh. Thomas hit a solo homer in the flfh, and Pirritano hit a solo home run, the second of the seniors career, in the third inning. He was on base twice in the game and scored two runs also scoring on the Mesoraco home run. Derek Danver was also 2-for-3 in game two.

But Seton Hill had 16 hits while scoring the 15 run in game one using a six-run seventh to blow the game completely open, and the Griffins came back with 13 more hits in game two scoring multiple run in five different innings including five-run sixth.

Kane McCall took the game one loss going 5.1 innings allowing nine runs, all earned, on 11 hits, three walks and a hit batter while striking out four. Josh Friel then let up six runs, all earned, on three hits, three walks and a hit batter in 1.1 innings. Chase Gorski gave up two hits but no runs in 0.1 of an inning.

In game two, Troy Kumar was the losing pitcher going 5.1 innings and giving up 12 runs, nine earned, on 11 hits and four walks. Kyle Armagost threw 0.2 of an inning scoreless and Alex Borofski gave up two runs in one inning of work.

Clarion (5-16 overall, 3-11 PSAC West) is back in action with a doubleheader at Seton Hill (26-4, 13-1) Monday.
