Work Continues as Farmer’s Inn Prepares to Open

New Farmer's InnSIGEL, Pa. (EYT) – The building is up and the contractors are working inside as Kim Lucas works feverishly to get the new Farmer’s Inn open in a few months.

“It’s only seven weeks before we hope to open,” Lucas told exploreJeffersonpa.com on Wednesday morning. “I’m pleased with how things are going, but it’s a little nerve-racking at times.”

“We have a lot to do to be open by the middle of April,” Lucas said.

The new metal building that will be home to the restaurant looks larger than the previous structure, but Lucas said it’s actually a bit smaller.

“The high roof makes it look bigger, but it’s a little smaller. Hopefully, it will be big enough,” Lucas added.

The original restaurant burned to the ground May 30, 2017, but Farmer’s Inn was open barely a week later. When it closed for the season last fall, the preparations for the new restaurant began.

Lucas said she is hoping to be open in time for the first day of trout fishing season, which will be Saturday, April 14.

Farmer's Inn LambsThere are also new babies at Farmer’s Inn, including several several lambs that will soon become favorites at the petting zoo.

Lucas is also planning a benefit dinner for Nathan Daniels, one of the contractors who was involved in the work on the restaurant. He was seriously injured in a traffic accident on January 13 that hospitalized him in Pittsburgh.

“I’ll be ready to announce the dates for the benefit and our opening soon,” Lucas said.

She said the dinner will likely be just before their grand opening.
