Fishing and Boating Report for Jefferson County

5:3 kyle lake at sunsetJEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – Saturday, bass season kicks off, and for anglers who stay in Jefferson County, they have a number of options.

The 165-acre Kyle Lake in Washington Township, just outside of Falls Creek, is one place to try. It is managed under Big Bass Program regulations, which means bass can’t be kept unless they are at least 15 inches in length.

The daily limit is four fish. The regulations are designed to help bass grow to larger sizes, and it seems to have had some success over the years.

Boats are limited to electric motors, and there is one boat launch ramp. There is also a handicap accessible fishing pier.

Also, near Punxsutawney, is Cloe Lake, a 27-acre body of water. While it is primarily a trout lake, the Pa. Fish & Boat Commission has stocked largemouth bass fingerlings over the years.

The PFBC has placed numerous fish habitat structures in the lake as well.

Little Toby Creek also holds some smallmouth bass, most of which migrate from the Clarion River.

In most waters during bass season, anglers can keep a daily limit of six bass, which must be at least 12 inches in length. There are also lakes and rivers managed with higher length limits and lower creel limits.

Anglers can consult the Summary of Fishing Regulations for more specific information.

As a promotional lead-up to bass season, the PFBC this year is again partnering with several organizations to sponsor a giveaway that includes a fishing kayak, tickets to a NASCAR race, and tickets to a concert.
