Punxsutawney-based State Police say the fire broke out around 10 a.m. in a residential garage located at 126 Church Road.

Police say the homeowners discovered the fire and immediately evacuated the home.

Upon arrival, Punxsutawney Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire.

The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit was requested to conduct an “origin and cause” investigation.

After investigation, it was determined that the fire originated within a wall between the garage and an enclosed breezeway located next to the residence. The cause of the fire was accidental and found to be electrical in nature.

Officials say the garage sustained major damages. Damage to the structure is estimated at $75,000.00.

In addition to the garage, two cars inside the garage were also damaged. The home suffered minor water damage and some fire damage in the attic.

Crews from McCalmont Twp., Big Run, Oliver Twp. and Perry Twp. also responded to the scene. Brookville provided standby fire coverage for Puxsutawney Fire Department.
