Flash Flooding Reported in Venango County; Numerous Roadways Shut Down

VENANGO COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – A Flood Warning remains in effect for parts of Venango County until Wednesday morning as emergency officials report widespread flooding throughout the area.

On Tuesday at 10:26 p.m., National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to show very heavy rain moving through northern Venango County.

At 10:57 p.m., a Venango County 911 Dispatcher told exploreVenango.com, “We have flooding everywhere,” but declined to provide information on locations affected by the flooding.

Venango County 911 was contacted again at 11:36 p.m. and was still unable to provide information on areas affected by flooding.

Locations affected by the heavy rain include Pleasantville, Cherrytree Township, and Chapmanville.

According to the National Weather Service, 2 to 3 inches of rain has fallen over parts of Northern Venango County.

At 12:35 a.m., emergency officials reported continued flooding.

Motorists reported flooding on several area roadways, including Route 417, Route 8, and Hamilton Corners Road in Cherrytree Township.

Downed trees have also been reported throughout the area.

Numerous roadways have been shut down due to flooding, including Route 8 in Cornplanter Township. The roadway is expected to remain closed throughout the morning.

Officials urge motorists to avoid travel and heed instructions from law enforcement.

Showers are expected to continue through Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 p.m. for several other counties in the region including Butler; Clarion; Forest; Jefferson; Lawrence; Mercer; and Venango. Crawford County remains under a Flash Flood Warning until 8:45 a.m.
