Flood Advisory Issued for Northern Jefferson County

NORTHERN JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. – A Flood Advisory has been issued for Northern Jefferson County.

The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh issued the following Flood Advisory at 9:51 p.m.:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PITTSBURGH HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD ADVISORY FOR MINOR FLOODING OF POOR DRAINAGE AREAS IN…
JEFFERSON COUNTY IN WEST CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA…

* UNTIL 1245 AM EDT

* AT 950 PM EDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED UP TO AN INCH AND A HALF OF RAIN HAD FALLEN OVER NORTHERN JEFFERSON COUNTY IN THE PAST HOUR. STORMS WERE SLOWLY MOVING TO THE SOUTHEAST…HOWEVER AN HOUR OR TWO OF HEAVY RAINFALL WAS STILL LIKELY NEAR THE TOWN OF BROCKWAY. THIS WILL LIKELY CAUSE LOCALIZED FLOODING PROBLEMS FROM NEAR THE CLEAR CREEK STATE PARK TO THE TOWN OF BROCKWAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE ELEVATED LEVELS ON SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS…AND PONDING OF WATER IN URBAN AREAS…HIGHWAYS…STREETS AND UNDERPASSES AS WELL AS OTHER POOR DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
