Flooding Results in Multiple Water Rescues in New Bethlehem

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. (EYT) – Severe weather and flooding led to multiple water rescues in the New Bethlehem area early Saturday morning.

Emergency crews rescued one family from a home along Vine Street early Saturday morning and officials were advising other residents on the street to evacuate.

Emergency radio transmissions indicated that water was “rapidly rising” into at least one residence along Vine Street around 12:15 a.m.

Around 12:20 a.m., a hovercraft rescue crew was called to the New Bethlehem area to assist with multiple water rescues. Other water rescue crews from the region were also dispatched.

Multiple road closures are being reported in the area including Route 861 and Olean Trail from New Bethlehem to Limestone.

Flooding is being reported on various other roadways including portions of Broad Street and Penn Street.

Around 12:43 a.m., another family was reportedly trapped in a flooded house along Penn Street. That family, and residents at a Porter Township home, were rescued safely. Additional rescue efforts were being reported as of 1:10 a.m.
