Forest County Tree Sale Fundraiser to Support ‘The Woodlander’ Newsletter

TIONESTA, Pa. – The Forest County Extension Office will be holding its annual tree sale in conjunction with Forest County 4-H offering perennial bulbs and plants for spring planting and select small fruit varieties.

The proceeds from the tree sale fundraiser will support “The Woodlander” newsletter that is published quarterly by Penn State Extension for forest landowners in Northwest Pennsylvania. Proceeds from the perennial bulb and small fruit sale will be used to support the Forest County 4-H program.

This year’s sale offers the following selection. Fruit trees that are being offered this year include several varieties of apples, plums, and pear. Small fruits include Red and Black Raspberries, Thornless Blackberries, Elderberry, Blue Berry sets, Everbearing Strawberries, Goji Berries, and Aronia Berry.

Coniferous Tree seedlings are sold in sets of 10. These 2 and 3 year seedlings range in size from 6 inches to 18 inches depending on the species. The conifer species offered this year include Blue Spruce, Concolor Fir, Douglas Fir, White Pine, Norway Spruce, and White Spruce.

Deciduous Trees and Shrub seedlings are also being sold in sets of 10. These seedlings range in size from 12 inches to 18 inches depending on the species. The deciduous species offered this year include Sugar Maple, Black Walnut, Red Oak, White Oak, Black Cherry, and Chestnut Oak.

The perennial bulbs and plants that are offered are for spring planting and summer blooming. These include Blazing Stars, Four O’ Clock, New Tiger Lilies, Stargazer Lilies, Lavender Astilbe and Dutch Iris Mix.

Ordering deadline is Friday, March 4 for all fruit tree orders and Thursday, March 17 for all other orders.

The pick-up location will be at the Forest County 4-H Center located 5 miles south of Tionesta, off Route 36, just south of the former State Police barracks. Orders will be available for pick up on Friday, April 15, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. or Saturday, April 16, from 10:00 a.m. until noon.
