Former Brockway Football Coach Harry H. Pinge Jr. Dies

OI2125035087_PingephotoHarry H. Pinge Jr., 90, of Route 219 Brockport, Pa. died on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Highland View Health Care Center in Brockway.

Born in Lock Haven, Pa; on January 28, 1924 he was the son of the late Harry H. and Hazel Fox Pinge Sr. He was married to Shirley Lever and she died in 1980. He then married Enes Murgash in 1983 and she survives. Retired, he had been employed 37 years at the Brockway School District where he taught many subjects over the years, but primarily Health and Phys Ed. classes. He also served as the Varsity Head Football Coach for many years and was the coach when the team won the 1970 championship. “Coach” as he is still called to this day enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and working crossword puzzles. He also was an avid Hot Wheels Car collector. One of his most favorite pastimes was cheering for his favorite college football team Auburn. Coach Pinge was a member of Parson-Marnatti Post #95 of the American Legion, the V.F.W. Club and the S.O.I. Club. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S.M.C. and received 2 Purple Hearts for injuries incurred during his service time.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two sons Steven Pinge of Brockport and Mark (Tracy) Murgash of Atlanta, Ga; and a daughter Kathy Landis of Williamsport, Pa. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Shirley and a grandson Eric Pinge.

Friends will be received on Saturday, October 11 from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway.

A Prayer Service will be held at 12:00 noon, also at the funeral home with Msgr. Charles Kaza officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded by Parson-Marnatti Post #95 of the American Legion immediately following at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Brockway. Memorial donations may be made to the Brockway Gridiron Association or St. Tobias Church.
