Espinal, who played 95 games for the Curve this season before a promotion to Triple-A Indianapolis on July 28, was the league’s selection as the top first baseman and picked up the first end-of-season award selection of his professional career.

Playing his second season with the Curve, Espinal was ranked second with 72 RBIs, second with 25 doubles and seventh with 104 hits at the time of his promotion. He was hitting .283 with a career-best 15 homers.

Defensively, Espinal was the top defensive first baseman in the Eastern League this season, posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 81 games played at first base. He set the record for the best fielding percentage by an Altoona first baseman, eclipsing the .995 mark set by Justin Howard (2013), Simon Pond (2005) and Josh Bonifay (2005).

Espinal, 23, was selected as an Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star in 2016 and 2017. He is one of just four players in Curve franchise history to receive multiple mid-season all-star selections, joining Shawn Garrett (2002-03), Jason Delaney (2008-09) and Brock Holt (2011-12).
