Four PSAC Women’s Hoops Teams; Three Men’s Teams Earn NCAA D-II Bids

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball teams will participate in the NCAA DII Women’s Basketball Championship, the NCAA announced Sunday evening.

The tournament field consists of 64 teams that are made of eight eight-team regions.

California (28-3) earned the No. 1 seed and will host the Atlantic Regional. The Vulcans will open the tournament against Glenville State.

IUP (23-6), the PSAC Women’s Basketball Champion, grabbed the No. 2 seed and will battle Johnson C. Smith in the opening round.

Shippensburg (24-6) earned the No. 4 seed following a semifinal appearance and will face PSAC foe, Mercyhurst (23-7), who earned the No. 5 seed.

First round games will commence Friday, March 10 and second round games will be Saturday, March 11.

The Atlantic Region final will take place Monday, March 13.

The Elite Eight (March 21), Final Four (March 22) and NCAA DII Championship (March 24 at 7 p.m.) will take place in Columbus, Ohio.

IUP, Shippensburg, Kutztown Earn Men’s Berths

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Shippensburg, IUP and Kutztown will represent the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in the NCAA DII Men’s Basketball Championship, the NCAA announced Sunday night.

The tournament consists of 64 teams made of eight eight-team regions.

Mountain East representative Fairmont State will serve host to the Atlantic Regional after claiming the No. 1 seed.

Shippensburg leapt to secure the No. 2 seed after winning the PSAC Men’s Basketball title Sunday afternoon against Kutztown. SU will battle Virginia Union in the opening round.

IUP earned the No. 4 seed in the region despite being ranked No. 2 in the nation in last week’s coaches’ poll. The Crimson Hawks will battle PSAC foe and No. 5 seed Kutztown.

This marks the fourth consecutive season that at least three PSAC teams made the tournament.

Tournament play commences Saturday, March 11 while second round games will take place March 12. The Atlantic Region final will take place Tuesday, March 14.

The Elite Eight (March 22), Final Four (March 23) and NCAA DII Championship will take place in Sioux Falls, S.D.
