NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Edgewood Heights personal care community in New Bethlehem will be offering free memory screenings for the public on Tuesday, May 19.
The event is from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The memory screenings will be conducted by a qualified healthcare professional and are confidential.
The screening takes about 20 minutes to administer and consists of a series of questions and tasks.
Memory screenings make sense for anyone concerned about memory loss, who are having early warning signs of dementia or have a family history of Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.
Memory screenings can also be done for individuals who would like to see how their memory is now for future comparisons.
The memory screening does not make a diagnosis. Below average scores should be followed up by a medical exam with a physician.
Some memory problems can be easily treated, such as those caused by vitamin deficiencies or thyroid problems.
Other memory problems might result from causes that are not currently reversible, such as Alzheimer’s disease. However, there are medications available to help lessen or stabilize symptoms for a time.
Edgewood Heights is a personal care community of WRC Senior Services, which has been caring for seniors in the area since 1890.
An appointment must be made for the screening by calling 814-275-2790 or emailing [email protected].
