Friday’s High School Baseball Roundup: Punxsy Tops DuBois with Run in the Seventh

DUBOIS, Pa. (D9Sports) – Brandon Matthews scored the eventual game-winning run on a double play ball hit by Isaac Stouffer in the top of the seventh inning, as Punxsutawney beat DuBois, 3-2.

Matthews started the inning with a walk, and Lucas Burkett followed with a bunt single to third with Matthews going to third before Stouffer hit into the double play.

The Chucks led 2-0 until the fifth when DuBois scored twice on a Drew Bankovich double and a Mitch Ferra single.

Stouffer was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Joey Dipietro was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Tyler Richardson was 2-for-3 for Punxsy.

Bankovich was 2-for-4 with the double, a run scored and an RBI.

Logan Johnston got the win going seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits and three walks and two strikeouts.

Colin Read suffered the loss going six-plus innings allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits and a walk while striking out four.

KARNS CITY 9, BROCKWAY 6

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Nolan Riley drove in three runs and Tyler Yough and Marcus Lantz two each to lead visiting Karns City to a 9-6 win over Brockway.

Riley was 1-for-4 while Yough was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored and Lantz 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.

Steve O’Donnell also had a pair of hits, a walk and a run scored for the Gremlins with Jace Ebbitt going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Cullen Williams doubling.

Tyler Serafini was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs for Brockway.

Yough got the win going six innings allowing six runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four. Lantz got the save going one inning without allowing a hit needing just seven pitches to get three outs.

Hunter Antonuccio took the loss going 1 ⅓ innings allowing three runs on four hits.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 13, KEYSTONE 2, 5 INNINGS

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Behind an eight-run second inning, Clarion-Limestone rolled to a 13-2 five-inning win over visiting Keystone.

Zane Summerville had a double going 1-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Riley Hummell also doubled for the Lions going 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI, while Colby Himes was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Ian Hawthorn added a 2-for-3 day with a run scored, and Sam Leadbetter went 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Christian Smith, who had a pair of RBIs on offense, got the win going four innings allowing an unearned run on two hits and two walks while striking out eight in relief.
