William Lawhead is pleased to announce his bid for election to the position of Clearfield County Commissioner on the Republican ballot. He first assumed public office in January of 2000 as a Lawrence Township Supervisor and has been re-elected twice.
Lawhead is a founding member and president of the Montgomery Run Watershed Group. This group has been awarded grants from the Department of Environmental Protection to study acid mine drainage in Montgomery Run and to build a passive treatment system to clean up mine water that is polluting the creek.
He is secretary/treasurer of the Centre Cemetery Association; a past exalted ruler of Lodge No. 540 of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America; the current president of the Clearfield County Association of Township Officials and also a member of the NRA and chairperson of the Lawrence Township Board of Supervisors.
He has strived to provide the people of Lawrence Township with a stable and competent voice in their local government, and has established a good working relationship with local industrial and economic development agencies and works to promote the area as a tourist destination.
As a member of the Lawrence Township Board of Supervisors, he has been instrumental in updating the township road equipment and improving the Township infrastructure.
Lawrence Township has partnered with Bradford, Decatur and Woodward townships for an energy grant for the township building. This grant bought new windows, doors, lights and insulation for the building to cut heating, cooling and electrical costs.
The township was also awarded an energy grant through Penelec to update the lighting at the Target Building in Hyde, which houses the Lawrence Township Police Department; the township Recreation Board’s batting cages; Clearfield Soccer Association indoor soccer field; the winter road materials and the townships’ seasonal equipment.
The Lawrence Township Board of Supervisors has also applied for and received grants, which have provided improvements to the Lawrence Township Recreation Park and the dirt and gravel roads.
Through a joint recycling effort with Clearfield Borough, township residents can now use the recycling facility in the borough and borough residents can use the facility on Mann Road for yard waste, brush and tree trimmings.
Lawrence Township also received a grant to purchase the large grinder at the compost site and the mulch produced has been sold and sometimes traded for road materials but is always free to township and borough residents.
“When I ran for office, I did so because I wanted to see changes in Lawrence Township. We are seeing improvements here in Lawrence Township, and I welcome the opportunity to use my experience and work to improve Clearfield County,” said Lawhead.
Lawhead has two children, Zac Lawhead and Amy Fry, and four grandchildren, Zoe Lawhead, Josh Bowery and Beth and Brandon Fry. He resides in Hyde with his wife, the former Bev Williams, from Bigler and their two dogs, Polly and Jackson.
