142x150-4003215Gary Russell Weigel, 72 of Indiana, formerly of Sykesville, died Sunday evening, January 31st, 2016 at his home with his partner Terry, by his bedside.

The son of the late Vernon and Verna Pearl (Stewart) Weigel, he was born in Cleveland, OH on April 7, 1943.

A graduate of DuBois Area High School, Gary earned his B.S. in Elementary Education from Clarion University and his M.S. in Education from IUP. He later went back to DuBois where he taught 4th through 8th grades at the DuBois Area School District.

Gary was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church, Indiana.

He enjoyed traveling. Gary journeyed throughout the world, visiting Europe, Asia, Africa, South and North America, and visited many attractions and historic sites in the United States. He also enjoyed gardening, reading fiction, watching TV sitcoms and movies, and following IUP sports.

Gary belonged to the United Commercial Travelers Council # 598.

He will be remembered by his life partner, Terry W. Guthrie, with whom he lived and shared many happy years. Gary is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Weigel, Punxsutawney and several nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 3rd from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. His memorial service will be Thursday morning at 11 AM at the Calvary Presbyterian Church, Indiana. Rev. David Hanna and Rev. Richard Cassel will co-officiate. Interment will be held at the Sykesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VNA Hospice of Indiana County, 850 Hospital Road, Suite # 3000, Indiana, PA 15701, or to the Calvary Presbyterian Church, 695 School St., Indiana, PA 15701.
