Gelio “Skip” Racchini

Gelio “Skip” Racchini, age 98, of Daugherty St. in Brookville PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday June 2, 2015.

Skip was born on October 14, 1916, in Conifer, PA to Joseph and Madelina (Beducci) Racchini.

He married Twila Elizabeth Harriger on November 25, 1937 in Punxsutawney, PA.

Skip worked in the mines for 16 years; he also worked for W.R. Hetrick Construction and Sibley Builders for many years; then he retired from Penn-DOT in 1979.

He was a member of the Stanton Sportsman Club and the Knox Twp. Rod and Gun Club.

Skip moved to Ramseytown and then Numine when he was 10 years old.

In seventh grade he moved to Brandy Camp for the remainder of seventh, eighth, and 6 weeks of ninth grade; returning to Ramseytown in 1931.

He enjoyed hunting and loved playing baseball with his brothers. He was a pitcher, manager, and an umpire for many years.

He was an avid sports fan who watched all the Pittsburgh Pirates Ball games, Steelers football games, and the Penguins games; he always knew who won their standings.

He enjoyed being a carpenter that made many items and gave them away. He had a large vegetable garden, which he worked in until he was 97 years old.

He enjoyed sharing his produce with family, friends, and neighbors.

He is survived by his daughter Carole Ann (Randall) Park, of Brookville, PA; and his sister Eleanor Harriger Myers, of Brookville, PA; two Grandchildren: Sandra (Ken) Reitz, of Brookville, PA, and David R. Park of Brookville, PA; four Great-Grandchildren: Richard M. Ford, Nicole (Corey) Santoriello, Rochelle A. Park, and Elliette E. Park; and five Great-Great-Grandchildren: Joshua, Jordan, and Ryleigh Ford; Adrian and Sophia Santoriello. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by two brothers: Primo “Cookie” and Ardovino “Ardy” and two sisters: Fay (Albert) Moyer and Ida (John) Santo; and his only son Donald Wayne Racchini.

Family will receive friends on Thursday June 4, 2015, at McKinney Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville PA, 15825, from 7 – 9pm; and then again on Friday June 5, 2015, from 9 – 11am.

A funeral service will also be held on Friday at McKinney Funeral Home beginning at 11am with Pastor Henry Scoff officiating.

Interment to take place at St. Johns (Windy Hill) Cemetery, in Rose Twp. Jefferson Co.
