Gene C. Miller

CaptureGene C. Miller, 86 of Summerville, PA, went to be with Jesus, Saturday September 27, 2014.

He died at the Brookville Hospital.

Born May 26, 1928, in Black Moshannon, Center County, PA, he was the son of the late Edwin C. Miller and Isabel Pryde Miller.

Gene attended elementary school in North Philipsburg and graduated from Philipsburg High School.

Gene enlisted in the Navy and obtained the rank of E-7 (Chief Storekeeper).

During his 20 years of service, he obtained the following citations; Good Conduct Award, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Metal, China Service Metal, and Presidential Service Award. He served under Commander in Chief John F. Kennedy and Lynden B. Johnson.

On June 9, 1962 Gene was married to Sylvia Christina Wyse in Summerville.

After retiring from the Navy, Gene was employed at the Clarion University as the head of shipping and receiving until his retirement in June of 1990.

Gene was a member of the Church of God in Brookville.

He also belonged to the VFW, Promise Keepers, and American Legion.

Gene enjoyed gardening, nature, coin collecting, stamp collecting, camping, but most of all traveling and family.

Along with his wife, Gene is survived by two daughters; Jennifer “Scott” Singleton of Summerville, Jeanette “Daniel” Kniseley or Chesapeake, VA., a brother, Robert Neil Miller of Philipsburg, PA, and five grandchildren; Joshua Singleton of Tehachapi, CA., Arielle Singleton of Summerville, Auroara Singleton of Chesapeake, VA., Shayna Kniseley of Waipahu HI., and Garrett Kniseley of Chesapeake, VA.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin Miller, William Miller, Joseph Miller and a sister Nellie Wellar.

His family will receive friends on Monday September 29, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Furlong Funeral Home, Gregory K. Furlong FD, corner of Broad St. and First Ave., Summerville.

The service will be held at the Church of God in Brookville, on Tuesday September 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Henry Scoff officiating.

Interment will be in the Vandervort Cemetery, Clover Twp., Jefferson County, PA.
