Gerald “Jerry” P. Mason

Jerry MasonGerald “Jerry” P. Mason, age 75, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2017, in the comforts of his home, after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, or “PSP”, which is a rare form of the Parkinson’s Disease.

Jerry was born on October 6, 1941, in Brookville, PA, to the late Lawrence L. and Charlotte V. (Fuller) Mason.

On November 18, 1961, he married Victoria “Vickie” A. (Ishman) Mason, in Summerville, PA. After celebrating 55 years together, Vickie survives him.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Brookville, PA.

Jerry attended and graduated from the Brookville High School with the class of 1959.

In 1964 he graduated from Meat Cutting School in Toledo, OH.

He was always a hard worker and he held many jobs in his early years; he was very proud of his first job in which he sold The Grit newspaper, starting at the age of ten. Some other positions he held as a young man were Pin Setter at the YMCA Bowling Alley in Brookville, Dan Smith’s Ice Cream Shop, Dean Phipps Hardware Store, Humphrey’s Charcoal, Lycoming Construction, and Riverside Markets as a Meat Cutter serving the Johnston and DuBois areas.

Jerry is best known as the owner of Mason Beer Distributor, which he operated for 27 years.

After retiring from the Beer Distributor he continued working and performing odd-jobs. He was the maintenance supervisor for over 10 years at Liberty Apartments in Brookville.

Jerry loved all sports but most especially he enjoyed little league baseball. Often he would announce the games adding little comments to humor the audience. For years he would travel to Williamsport to enjoy those games as well.

Jerry also owned a race car named Snow White that he would use to race the different drag strips in the surrounding area; this activity was Jerry’s source of relaxation.

He was a leader who inspired and taught those around him the value of hard work and dedication. The memory of his kindness, humor, and leadership will be cherished for many years to come by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his wife Vickie, Jerry is survived by 2 daughters; Jayne (Donald) Crissman, Stacey (Ted) Truman; 1 son; Chip (Lynn) Mason; and 7 grandchildren; Ben Spence, Garrett Spence, Brendon Mason, Jordan Mason, Makenna Truman, Tighe Truman, and Taite Truman.
