Gloria Marion Wiant

Gloria Marion Wiant, age 86, of Fairmount City, went to Heaven late Friday evening, July 26, 2013 at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

Born July 4, 1927 in Fairmount City, she was a daughter of the late Carl S. and Izetta Vena Priester Shick.

Gloria was a 1945 graduate of the New Bethlehem High School and worked at the Ross Drug Store while she was a high school student.

She married Edward “Pete” Wiant on March 26, 1946. He preceded her in death in 2008.

Gloria was twice employed at the Sylvania Company in Brookville and also worked for H.B. DeViney Company in New Bethlehem and was a clerk for the Foulis Cleaning Company in New Bethlehem for a few years.

Out of all the places she had worked, J & M Decorating in New Bethlehem was her favorite. She worked at the store, owned at that time by her brother Arnold Shick and his wife Lois, until its sale.

Gloria was a long time member of the Oakland Church of God in Distant. She enjoyed music, cooking, baking, gardening and shopping, but she found the most joy and happiness in being with her family.

Survivors include a daughter: Sherri G. Slack and her husband, Donald, of Fairmount City; two grandchildren: Babbi D. Slack of Ocean City, Maryland and Troy S. Slack and his wife, Jaime, of New Bethlehem; One great grandson, Johnathan P. Slack of New Bethlehem.

She is also survived by a many special nieces and nephews including niece Linda Bonnett of Fairmount City with whom she was especially close; three brothers-in-law: Kenneth “Joe” Wiant, Ted Minich and Larry Fenstermaker and two sisters-in-law, Mary Hinderliter and Midge Bradley.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gloria was preceded in death by her sister and brother, Hazel Beideman and Arnold Shick; sisters-in-law: Lois Shick, Myrtle Young, Evelyn Wiant, Marion Wiant, Peggy Fenstermaker, Carrie Mae Minich and Josephine Wiant and brothers-in-law: William Wiant, Charles Young, James Wiant, Charles Bradley, Francis Beideman and Edgar Jones.

Friends will be received from 2-5 pm Monday, July 29, 2013 at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service Chapel at 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem.

Funeral services will be held at 6 pm, Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Jimmy Swogger, Pastor of the Oakland Church of God, officiating over the service.

Interment will take place in the Oakland Cemetery, Distant, Armstrong County.
